Hyderabad, Aug 6 (IANS) The Women Safety Wing of the Hyderabad Police on Thursday took trainee IPS officer M. Uday Krishna Reddy into custody for questioning in connection with a sexual assault case lodged by a fellow trainee officer.

A day after a court granted police custody of the accused for two days, officials of the Women Safety Wing took him from Chanchalguda Central Jail. They shifted him to Attapur Police Station for interrogation.

A team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Lavanya Naik is conducting the questioning, which is expected to continue on Friday also. Investigators believe the custodial interrogation could yield crucial evidence in the case.

First Class Additional Judicial Magistrate of Ranga Reddy District at Rajendranagar on Wednesday sent Uday Krishna Reddy to police custody for two days.

The accused was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days on July 29 and has since been lodged in Chanchalguda Central Prison. A woman batchmate of Reddy at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad had lodged a police complaint against him on July 18.

Based on a complaint by the victim, a case was registered at Attapur Police Station under Sections 64(1) read with 63(b)(iii), 109, 74, 75, 77, 78, 79, 127(2), 115(2), 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 66E, 67A of the IT Act.

According to police, the accused officer trainee was found to be involved in the commission of the reported offences.

Accordingly, he was taken into custody on July 28. Police said that the accused threatened to release private chats after the victim broke up the relationship with him and married another person.

Krishna Reddy previously worked as a police constable in Andhra Pradesh and later joined the IPS in the 2025 Batch after clearing the UPSC, and has been undergoing training at SVPNPA since December 2025.

The accused came into contact with the victim woman via Instagram in mid-2025 following her response to his post regarding his journey towards success in joining the Indian Police Service (IPS).

According to police, throughout his training period at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) and SVPNPA, the relationship was marked by frequent arguments, emotional manipulation, possessiveness, and volatile behaviour.

The accused repeatedly threatened to commit suicide, displayed weapons, insulted the victim, made persistent demands for multiple relationships, and engaged in acts of harassment, including throwing and damaging her laptop, creating fake social media accounts after being blocked, threatening to release private chats, and contacting her family and colleagues without her consent.

During the investigation, police found new evidence suggesting that the accused was allegedly in a close relationship with another woman from Andhra Pradesh.

During the two-day questioning, police are likely to gather more information about this relationship.
