Delhi Police busts Telegram-based part-time cyber job scam; arrests two from Rajasthan

New Delhi, Aug 6 (IANS) Delhi Police’s Cyber Police Station in the Central District has arrested two cyber criminals from Rajasthan for their involvement in a Telegram-based part-time job and investment scam. The accused were engaged in procuring and supplying mule bank accounts to cyber fraud syndicates, enabling the transfer and laundering of money obtained through online scams.

According to police, the case came to light after a complaint was lodged on July 9, regarding a Telegram-based fraud in which the victim was cheated of Rs 2,84,100. The complainant reported that he was initially approached on June 9 by a Telegram user identified as ‘Payal Singh Jaat’, who assigned him online review tasks related to Foodpanda. The tasks appeared genuine and were designed to gain the victim’s trust.

Subsequently, on July 2, the complainant was introduced to another Telegram user identified as ‘Gaurika Ojas’ (@mhhgdzs), who persuaded him to invest money in an online investment scheme by promising unusually high returns.

Believing the claims made by the fraudsters, the victim transferred a total of Rs 2,84,100 through UPI and IMPS transactions from his State Bank of India (SBI) and Punjab National Bank (PNB) accounts to several bank accounts provided by the accused.

Based on the complaint, an E-FIR No. 190/2026 dated July 9, under Sections 318(4) and 319 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at the Cyber Police Station, Central District.

During the investigation, police traced the movement of the defrauded funds through multiple beneficiary accounts maintained in different banks, including the Central Bank of India, Kerala Gramin Bank and State Bank of India.

A detailed analysis of the money trail revealed that Rs 1,00,000 from the cheated amount had been credited into a Central Bank of India account held in the name of Dinesh at the Marudhar Industrial Area Branch in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

Further scrutiny of the account revealed that Rs 80,000 had been withdrawn through a Central Bank of India ATM in Jodhpur, while another Rs 38,000 was withdrawn from an HDFC Bank ATM in Ajmer. Investigators also found evidence of expenditure amounting to Rs 19,500 at a petrol pump.

Using technical surveillance, financial transaction analysis and bank records, police established the involvement of the account holder. A dedicated police team led by Inspector Yograj Dalal, SHO of Cyber Police Station, Central District, was formed under the supervision of ACP Paharganj Saurabh A. Narendra. The team included ASI Pankaj, Head Constables Ravi Kant and Ashok, and Constable Nitin.

Acting on specific inputs, the team conducted a raid in Jodhpur on July 31 and apprehended Dinesh, aged 21. During interrogation, investigators reportedly obtained substantial incriminating evidence linking him to the fraud. He was subsequently arrested in the case.

Based on Dinesh’s disclosure statement, police traced and arrested his alleged associate, Vikas Siyag, a 20-year-old resident of Jodhpur. Investigators believe the duo played a key role in arranging and supplying mule bank accounts that were used to receive and transfer money generated through cyber fraud.

Police recovered four mobile phones and one SIM card from the accused. The seized devices have been sent for forensic examination to uncover further evidence and identify other members of the syndicate.

During the investigation, authorities also found that the bank account used in the present case was linked to five cyber crime complaints registered in different jurisdictions, indicating its repeated use in cyber-enabled financial frauds. Verification of the criminal antecedents of both accused is currently underway.

Further investigation is in progress to identify and apprehend other members of the cyber fraud network involved in the scam.
