President Murmu to address nation on eve of 80th I-Day

New Delhi, Aug 13 (IANS) President of India Droupadi Murmu will address the nation, August 14, on the eve of the country’s 80th Independence Day.

According to an official communication issued late on Thursday, the President’s address will be broadcast at 1900 hrs across the entire national network of Akashvani and telecast on all Doordarshan channels. The speech will first be delivered in Hindi, followed by the English version.

Doordarshan has confirmed that regional-language broadcasts will follow the Hindi and English telecasts, with its regional channels carrying translations for viewers across different states.

Akashvani will also broadcast regional language versions at 2130 hrs on its respective regional networks, ensuring that the message reaches citizens in their mother tongues.

The annual presidential address on the eve of Independence Day is a long‑standing tradition, setting the tone for the national celebrations on August 15. It typically reflects on the country’s achievements, challenges, and aspirations, while also paying tribute to the sacrifices made during the freedom struggle.

This year’s address carries added significance as India marks its 80th Independence Day, a milestone underscoring eight decades of democratic governance and national progress since 1947.

Officials said the broadcast arrangements have been made to ensure maximum reach, with both Doordarshan’s terrestrial and satellite channels relaying the speech, along with digital platforms.

Citizens across the country are expected to tune in to the President’s message, which precedes the Prime Minister’s traditional Independence Day speech from the Red Fort in New Delhi on August 15.
