Manipur prepares for Har Ghar Tiranga with 2 lakh flags

Imphal, Aug 6 (IANS) Manipur has geared up for the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga 2026 campaign by keeping around two lakh National Flags ready for distribution, with a series of patriotic and cultural programmes planned across the state from August 9 to 17, officials said on Thursday.

Art and Culture Department Secretary Naorem Praveen Singh said this year’s campaign will also commemorate the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, featuring events aimed at promoting patriotism and national unity, and encouraging every household to hoist the National Flag.

He said the campaign, organised as part of the nationwide initiative of the Union Ministry of Culture, seeks to take the message of patriotism to every village and urban centre across Manipur.

“The week-long programme has been designed to encourage public participation, strengthen the spirit of national unity and inspire citizens from all walks of life to join the celebrations actively,” Singh told the media.

Among the major events, a state-level Vande Mataram-themed Tiranga Concert will be held in Imphal on August 12 in collaboration with the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA). The Education Department, Higher and Technical Education Department, along with the Art and Culture Department, will organise Tiranga and Vande Mataram exhibitions in schools, colleges and public places to educate students and the public about the significance of the National Flag and the national song.

Singh said a high-level review meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary, attended by Administrative Secretaries, Deputy Commissioners and senior officials, has finalised the activities to be conducted across the state.

The celebrations will include bike and cycle rallies across districts and Gram Panchayats, Tiranga-themed artwork competitions in educational institutions and large Tricolour-inspired rangolis at prominent locations. Government offices and public buildings will also be illuminated in the colours of the National Flag.

Around two lakh National Flags have been kept ready for distribution, and all departments have been asked to submit their requirements to the General Administration Department. Tiranga selfie points will be set up across Imphal and other districts, with people encouraged to upload their photographs on the official Har Ghar Tiranga portal.

The Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) will coordinate publicity and document the events through photographs and videos.

As part of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on August 14, the state and district administrations will organise commemorative programmes and public awareness campaigns.

The Art and Culture Department has appealed to all government departments, educational institutions, civil society organisations and the public to actively participate in the campaign and help spread the message of patriotism and national unity across Manipur.
