J&K CM Abdullah inaugurates upgraded Residency Road High Street in Jammu

Jammu, Aug 7 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, on Friday inaugurated the upgraded Residency Road High street in Jammu city developed at a cost of Rs 9.18 crore under the Smart City Mission.

Office of J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on X today, “The Chief Minister today inaugurated the upgraded Residency Road-High Street in Jammu. Executed under the Smart City Mission at a cost of Rs 9.18 crore, the project marks a significant step towards modernising urban infrastructure and enhancing public convenience in the city.

“MLA @YudhvirSethiBJP and officers of the Housing and Urban Development Department were present on the occasion.”

The project under the Smart City Mission is aimed at improving urban infrastructure and providing better civic amenities for residents and visitors in Jammu.

The Jammu Smart City Mission has completed 125 out of 127 sanctioned projects worth Rs 2,940 crore.

Recent major inaugurations under the Smart City Mission include the upgraded Residency Road–High Street, the Heritage Trail, and the Bahu Fort Food Street, leaving only two final works remaining under the wider national urban initiative.

Nearly 98 per cent of all planned infrastructure and public convenience works in Jammu have been completed in Jammu city.

Recently launched projects include upgraded urban corridors, aesthetic public spaces, and opening of modernised food hubs to boost local tourism and commerce and make things convenient for those living or travelling in Jammu.

Only a couple of specialised projects — such as localised pond rejuvenation and ecological works remain in their final execution phase.

Smart Cities Mission is an urban renewal and retrofitting programme by the Government of India with the mission to develop smart cities across the country, making them citizen-friendly and sustainable.

On similar lines, the Srinagar Smart City Mission is an urban renewal initiative implemented by Srinagar Smart City Limited to transform Srinagar into an eco-friendly, resilient, and vibrant city. Out of 161 planned projects worth Rs 3,634 crore, 157 projects have been completed.
