India Post delivers Tricolour by drone to Himachal on I-Day eve
New Delhi, Aug 14 (IANS) The Department of Posts on Friday delivered the national flag by drone from Mandi Head Post Office to Rehdhar Branch Post Office in Himachal Pradesh, marking its first such delivery on the eve of Independence Day.
Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia shared details of the initiative late on Friday. He said the drone delivery reflected the use of modern technology to strengthen postal services and reach people in remote areas.
The Tricolour was received at Rehdhar by Honorary Subedar Major Kartar Singh, a retired personnel of the Army Medical Corps. Scindia joined the programme virtually from New Delhi and interacted with Kartar Singh during the delivery.
The initiative was part of the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign, which seeks to encourage people to hoist the national flag at their homes and promote patriotism and national pride. Scindia said the campaign was not limited to hoisting the Tricolour at government offices, buildings and homes, but was also aimed at strengthening respect for the national flag in the hearts of citizens.
He said delivering the Tricolour to a former Army personnel was also a gesture of respect and gratitude towards those who had served the country. “India Post is working to serve the country, the Tricolour and the people with new technology,” Scindia said, reiterating the department’s motto, “Dak Seva, Jan Seva”.
According to the minister, the Department of Posts has identified 150 drone routes for delivery services in Himachal Pradesh and Assam. Of these, 110 routes are in Himachal Pradesh and 40 in Assam. Drone‑based delivery services were launched in Himachal Pradesh in June this year, while successful drone deliveries have also been carried out in Assam.
The initiative aims to strengthen last‑mile postal connectivity, particularly in remote and difficult terrain where conventional delivery systems face challenges. Scindia said modern technology would help India Post expand its services to people living in far‑flung areas and make its extensive postal network more effective.
The minister also extended advance Independence Day greetings to citizens and highlighted the significance of the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram” this year. He appealed to people to respect the Tricolour, uphold national values and participate in the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign.
The special delivery came a day before Independence Day, combining the patriotic significance of the national flag with India Post’s efforts to adopt technology for reaching the country’s remotest areas.
