Surat, Aug 10 (IANS) Special Operations Group (SOG) of Gujarat’s Surat City arrested 24 people who had allegedly violated externment orders and were found staying in the city without valid reasons during a special checking drive conducted across different police station areas, officials said on Monday.

The operation, conducted on the orders of Police Commissioner Wabang Jamir, was launched after police identified cases in which people externed from Surat for involvement in serious offences had allegedly re-entered the city.

The SOG said the drive was aimed at enforcing externment orders and taking legal action against those found violating them.

SOG Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rajdeepsinh Nakum and police inspector A.S. Sonara obtained and analysed data from police station areas where serious offences, including assault, murder and robbery, had recently been registered.

Based on the analysis, separate teams led by SOG inspectors J.M. Parmar and K.A. Savaliya conducted surprise checking and combing operations in different parts of the city.

According to the police, the operation covered 80 people from a list of 167 externed persons received from the Prevention of Crime Branch (PCB).

Of those checked, 24 were allegedly found present in Surat in violation of their externment orders. Separate cases under Section 142 of the Gujarat Police Act were registered against them at various police stations.

The 24 people identified by police were Vilas alias Bila Raghunath Pawar, 24, of Udhna; Faizanali alias Femlo Liaqatali Saiyed, 24, of Kosad; Mukesh, 27, of Chowk Bazaar; Yashkumar Solanki, 20, of Chhaprabhatha; Dipak Babubhai Satpute, 27, of Lalita Society; Javid alias Javid Lassi Jabbar Sheikh, 40, of Gopipura; Lokesh alias Lucky Manojbhai Rohida, 24, of Rander; Vinod Vishwas Wankhede, 35, of Dindoli; and Chirag alias Chiru Nareshbhai Kalevada, 21, of Pal.

The list also includes Ganesh Parmar, 40, of Adajan; Ishwar alias Vankiyo, 23, of Udhna; Sadiq Kalu Sheikh, 37, of Unn; Dakaran Ababhai Sonvane, 24, of Singanpor; Sabir Akhtarali Saiyed, 31, of Dindoli; Vicky alias Samosa, 32, of Chowk Bazaar; Mohammad Javid Mohammad Ayub Sheikh, 24, of Limbayat; Amin alias Ismail, 33, and Suleman alias Salman, 33, both of Bhestan; Mohsin alias Bobdo, 20, and Mehtabali alias Maya Mohammadali Saiyed, 29, of Khatodara; Mayursingh Rambhai Gohil, 23, of Varachha; Aamir alias Kachchu, also known as Sirajuddin alias Siraj Saiyed, 32, of Rander; Umar alias Tiger, 23, of Chowk Bazaar; and Durgesh alias Durga Prasad Ganesh Gupta, 25, of Pandesara.

Police said the externment orders against the accused had been issued in connection with their alleged involvement in serious offences, including cases related to cattle, assault and rioting.

The cases registered during the operation cite Section 142 of the Gujarat Police Act for violation of the externment orders.

“The operation followed instructions from the police commissioner after authorities found that some externed persons were entering the city despite the orders. Similar special drives and combing operations would continue to enforce externment orders and prevent activities that could disturb public peace,” officials added.
