Gujarat CM explores investment, mobility and technology partnerships in New York

New York, Aug 22 (IANS) Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held one-to-one meetings with senior representatives of JPMorgan, Tillman Global Holdings, Uber and Golub Capital in New York and visited IBM Research as part of his ongoing US visit, with discussions focusing on investment opportunities, financial services, digital infrastructure and advanced technology.

Patel is leading a high-level delegation to the US and Canada as part of efforts to attract investment and strengthen international partnerships ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2027.

The state government had earlier said the visit would include meetings with investors, industry leaders and technology companies.

During his meeting with JPMorgan, Patel discussed the further development of GIFT City as an international financial centre.

JPMorgan reaffirmed its commitment to GIFT City and shared its plans to deepen its presence and expand its business there.

The discussions come amid efforts to increase the participation of global financial institutions in GIFT City.

“The growing confidence of such institutions would help further strengthen the financial centre’s position,” CM Patel said.

Patel also met Jerry Keefe, Co-President of Golub Capital in New York. The company expressed interest in investing in GIFT City and in connecting global players associated with its banking, insurance and exchange activities with the GIFT City platform.

At his meeting with Sanjeev Ahuja, Founder and Chairman of Tillman Global Holdings, discussions centred on Gujarat’s data centre sector.

Ahuja praised the Gujarat government’s proactive policies, particularly its Data Centre Policy, and said “an appropriate policy environment and strong government-industry cooperation could advance growth in the sector”.

The discussions also highlighted opportunities for Dholera to emerge as a hub for next-generation digital infrastructure, including data centres.

Uber, meanwhile, expressed interest in expanding its presence in Gujarat’s Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. The discussions covered the potential to strengthen transport and connectivity in smaller and medium-sized cities.

Uber also showed interest in exploring partnership opportunities around major sporting events to be held in Gujarat.

Patel’s visit to IBM Research at Yorktown Heights focused on potential collaboration in research and development in artificial intelligence, quantum computing and semiconductors.

During the visit, the delegation was briefed on advanced research and innovation in the three sectors.

The discussions also examined opportunities for deeper collaboration, knowledge sharing and innovation to strengthen research and development capabilities in Gujarat and India.

The meetings in New York followed Patel’s engagements in the US aimed at promoting Gujarat as an investment destination and inviting global companies and investors to participate in the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2027.

During an earlier interaction with the Gujarati diaspora in San Francisco, Patel had said the state was focusing on emerging sectors, including semiconductors, AI, data centres and biotechnology.

He had also called for stronger links between global Gujarati talent and industries in Gujarat to promote knowledge sharing and technological collaboration.

The latest engagements have brought investment prospects in GIFT City and Dholera alongside possible cooperation in mobility, AI, quantum computing and semiconductor research.

The state government said the discussions are expected to create further opportunities for investment, employment, technology, research and innovation in Gujarat.
