Govt committed to taking development to every corner of Tripura, services to people’s doorsteps: CM Saha

Agartala, Aug 14 (IANS) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has said that the state government’s primary objective is to ensure that the benefits of development reach people at the grassroots, including those living in remote and far-flung areas.

The Chief Minister said on Thursday that the state government was giving equal emphasis to sectors such as education, healthcare, road connectivity, drinking water, electricity, agriculture, rural and urban development, information technology, sports and social security.

He was speaking at an event at the Dolugaon Higher Secondary School grounds after inaugurating six projects and laying the foundation stones for 12 others in northern Tripura’s Unakoti district.

The 18 projects, collectively valued at Rs 45.18 crore, are expected to give further impetus to development activities in the district.

The Chief Minister added that 56 projects had been inaugurated or had their foundation stones laid in Unakoti district since December 6, 2022, with a total allocation of around Rs 197.68 crore.

With Thursday’s projects added to the list, development activities in the district would gain further momentum, CM Saha said.

He praised the ‘Clean and Green Unakoti’ initiative and said the state government was developing tourism infrastructure while preserving the district’s historical, archaeological and religious heritage.

“Unakoti is an important historical and tourist centre, not only for Tripura and India but also at the international level. Development of the tourism sector will help boost the local economy and create employment opportunities,” he added.

He said that the state government was also working to make major tourist destinations, including Dumbur, Matabari, Neermahal and Ujjayanta Palace, more attractive.

The Chief Minister emphasised the importance of air connectivity for promoting tourism in Unakoti and North Tripura.

He also highlighted the state government’s initiative to convert 109-year-old historic Pushpawant Palace into a five-star hotel.

“If this project is implemented, it will expand the tourism industry, create employment opportunities and have a positive impact on the state’s economy,” he said.

Chief Minister Saha stressed that development would not remain confined to Agartala or a few urban centres.

“The government’s goal is to reach the people of every district, subdivision, village and remote area with the benefits of development. Keeping in mind Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’, public representatives, government employees and the administration are working together as ‘Team Tripura’,” he said.

The Chief Minister added that improvement in the state’s law-and-order situation and a peaceful environment had contributed to significant progress in road connectivity and investment.

He said that road construction and repair work in some areas had been affected by rainfall, adding that the concerned departments had been instructed to restore the damaged roads at the earliest.

“It is normal for some problems to arise when development work is underway, but the state government’s goal is not to stop the work. We want to take development forward by resolving the problems,” CM Saha added.

On healthcare infrastructure, the Chief Minister said that work was underway to establish trauma centres in different districts.

He added that initiatives would be taken to set up trauma centres in North Tripura and Unakoti districts in phases.

State Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Kailashahar Municipal Council Chairperson Chopla Rani Debroy, were among those present at the programme.
