GOC Pawan Chadha reviews Agniveers’ training in Danapur, Ramgarh cantonments
Kolkata, Aug 5 (IANS) Lt Gen Pawan Chadha, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Trinity Area, visited the Jharkhand and Bihar Sub Area at Danapur Cantonment on Wednesday.
During the visit, he reviewed training, infrastructure and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) preparations, the Army’s Eastern Command posted on X.
He interacted with officers and troops and discussed operational issues. At the Bihar Regimental Centre, he emphasised focused training and psychological conditioning of Agniveers.
The GOC also reviewed academics and student support at the Army Public School at Danapur and instructed regular evaluation and infrastructure upgrades.
A day earlier, Lt Gen Chadha, along with the GOC of the Jharkhand and Bihar Sub Area, visited the Ramgarh Cantonment, which houses the Punjab and Sikh Regimental Centres.
He reviewed training infrastructure at these centres and urged officers to upgrade training modules as per Army requirements.
The GOC also interacted with the 9th batch of Agniveers currently under training. He visited the Navchetana Kendra at the military hospital, which caters to youngsters aged 10 to 19 from Army families.
The centre provides guidance and confidential counselling on mental health, relationships, stress handling, nutrition and overall well-being, supported by clinical psychology experts.
He reviewed medical and dental facilities, station infrastructure and the Supply Company at the unit.
“The GOC appreciated the high training standards, robust psychological assessment and innovative initiatives towards enhancing quality of life and infrastructure,” the Eastern Command posted.
An official said Agniveers require careful handling and psychological support as most of them, 75 per cent, will leave the armed forces after four years.
While financial support, tradecraft training and recruitment opportunities are assured, the possibility of not being retained among the top 25 per cent can affect self-esteem.
“The Agniveers will gain special skills as soldiers in the four years they serve. It has to be ensured that they do not go astray once they return to society. That is why regular counselling and psychological evaluation are important,” the official said.
