New Delhi, Aug 7 (IANS) A 43-year-old man, accused of attempting to murder his wife and minor daughter in Delhi’s Shahdara, has been arrested and the knife allegedly used in the attack has also been recovered, police said on Friday.

According to the police, the case came to light on August 1, when Police Station Mansarovar Park received information from GTB Hospital regarding the admission of a woman and a minor girl with stab injuries.

Acting promptly, the Investigating Officer reached the hospital and found that Satya Prakash, son of Om Prakash, had allegedly attacked his wife, Poonam, 38, and his 15-year-old daughter with a knife, causing life-threatening injuries.

Based on the victims’ statements and available evidence, FIR No. 212/2026 dated August 2, 2026, was registered under Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Mansarovar Park, Shahdara District. An investigation was immediately initiated.

To apprehend the accused, a dedicated team comprising Sub-Inspectors Upkar Sharma and Sandeep Bishnoi, ASI Sunil Kumar, and Head Constables Anuj and Pradeep was constituted under the leadership of Inspector Rajesh Kumar Mishra, SHO of PS Mansarovar Park. The operation was conducted under the close supervision of ACP, Seemapuri, Mukesh Kumar and the overall guidance of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Shahdara.

During the investigation, the police team collected and analysed CCTV footage from the crime scene and nearby areas. The footage revealed that the accused, an e-rickshaw driver, fled the area after the attack by boarding another rickshaw after crossing the Jagatpuri railway line towards Nand Nagri.

The police conducted extensive inquiries among local residents and e-rickshaw drivers. On August 4, local intelligence suggested that accused Satya Prakash had been seen near Gagan Cinema, a place he frequently visited due to his habit of consuming alcohol. A trap was laid in the area, but the accused could not be traced.

The search operation was intensified, and local informers were activated. On August 5, police received specific information that the accused was roaming in a park near Gagan Cinema. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the team reached the location and successfully apprehended Satya Prakash from the parking area near the cinema.

During sustained interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to his involvement in the crime. He told investigators that he had a heated argument with his wife and daughter over a domestic dispute. In a fit of rage, he attacked both of them with a knife before fleeing the scene to evade arrest.

Police recovered the knife allegedly used in the commission of the offence.

The accused is a resident of Hardevpuri in Shahdara and works as an e-rickshaw driver. Police said he is reportedly addicted to alcohol.
