Congress announces major organisational changes in Meghalaya
New Delhi, Aug 16 (IANS) The Congress on Sunday announced a major organisational restructuring of its Meghalaya unit, appointing new office-bearers and constituting key committees with immediate effect as part of its ongoing organisational strengthening exercise.
According to an All India Congress Committee (AICC) release issued by party’s General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal, the Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge approved the appointment of two Working Presidents, one Senior Vice President, three Vice Presidents and three General Secretaries of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
Deborah C. Marak and Khranglin Lyngkhoi Tbn have been appointed Working Presidents, while Saleng A. Sangma has been named Senior Vice-President.
Boniface Bamon, Boldness L. Nongum and Omarlin Kyndiah have been appointed Vice Presidents.
Wansuk Syiem, Sanjay Das and Brigedy N. Marak will serve as General Secretaries.
The Congress has also reconstituted its district-level organisation in Meghalaya.
Lawanpynshngain War has been appointed President of the Eastern West Khasi Hills District Congress Committee, C.B. Syiem will lead the Ri Bhoi District Congress Committee, while Princeco M. Marak has been appointed President of the South West Garo Hills District Congress Committee.
The appointments have been made under the party’s Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan and take immediate effect.
In another significant organisational move, the Congress has constituted four key committees of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee — the Political Affairs Committee, Pradesh Election Committee, Disciplinary Action Committee and Manifesto Committee.
Former Tamil Nadu Congress leader A. Chellakumar has been named Chairman of the Political Affairs Committee, which includes senior state leaders such as Vincent H. Pala, Deborah C. Marak, Saleng A. Sangma, Szarita Laitphlang, Mathew Anthony and several other party functionaries.
Vincent H. Pala will chair the Pradesh Election Committee, which includes senior leaders and representatives of the party’s Mahila Congress and Youth Congress wings.
The Disciplinary Action Committee will be led by Khranglin Lyngkhoi Tbn, with Wansuk Syiem as the Convener.
The Manifesto Committee will be chaired by Saleng A. Sangma, with Sanjay Das as the Convener.
The sweeping organisational changes come as the Congress seeks to strengthen its state-level structure, improve coordination among senior leaders and prepare its organisation for upcoming political challenges in Meghalaya.
