Patna, Aug 9 (IANS) Bihar Police on Sunday apprehended an imposter from Khagaria district, who posed as an IAS officer and was using a fake identity to swindle villagers and local residents.

The arrested accused has been identified as Manish Kumar.

According to the police, the accused displayed forged ‘Government of India’ IDs on his private vehicles and used to deceive and swindle people of their money.

He was caught after some people got suspicious of his activities and lodged a complaint with the police.

A police team was formed under Khagaria’s Superintendent of Police (SP), who nabbed him over multiple complaints of fraud on the pretext of being an IAS officer.

Police stated that during interrogation, the accused attempted to claim an association with the Central Vigilance Commission. Furthermore, he claimed to be a secret agent for National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval. The police found these claims to be false. A fake identity card identifying him as an IAS officer was also recovered from his possession.

During the raid, the police recovered approximately 31 litres of foreign liquor from the accused’s home. Additionally, two antlers (horns of a swamp deer) were recovered – constituting a clear offence under the Wildlife Protection Act.

A Tesla car and a Tata Safari bearing a “Government of India” tag were also seized from the accused. According to the police, it is a high-end Tesla model equipped with state-of-the-art features related to fully automated driving.

During the investigation, the police recovered five Apple mobile phones, two laptops, 20 credit cards from various banks, eight debit cards, and four chequebooks from the accused.

The police said that the seized items and documents are currently being examined.

According to the police, there are reports that the accused holds assets not only in Bihar but also in other states and abroad; however, these claims are currently being verified.

The police said that the case is not limited merely to misleading people by creating a fake identity; aspects related to financial transactions and assets are also being investigated. The police said that further legal action is being taken following the arrest of the accused.
