Army conducts training for CISF personnel at Agartala airport

Agartala, Aug 12 (IANS) In a major step towards strengthening inter‑agency coordination and regional security, the Indian Army conducted a two‑week specialised tactical training programme for Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel deployed at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala, officials said on Wednesday.

A defence spokesman said the programme, organised under the aegis of the Red Shield Division of the Indian Army as a Military Civil Fusion initiative from July 27 to August 8, comprised a 13‑day comprehensive module designed to upgrade operational readiness, foster seamless tactical integration and reinforce the defence perimeter of critical aviation infrastructure against evolving threats.

Throughout the fortnight‑long training, expert instructors from the Indian Army imparted rigorous practical and theoretical training to the participating CISF troops. The modules covered advanced access control, perimeter hardening, counter‑sabotage measures, counter‑drone operations, high‑speed contingency response and integrated strategies to safeguard high‑value public and aviation assets.

At the closing ceremony, officials highlighted that the joint initiative successfully achieved its objective of fusing the Army’s tactical combat expertise with the CISF’s specialised aviation security mandate. The participating personnel demonstrated professional skill, physical endurance and operational synergy during the training.

Conducting such programmes underscores the Army’s continuous efforts to strengthen capacity building and foster joint operational capability with Central Armed Police Forces, the spokesman said.

With this enhanced training, the CISF contingent at MBB Airport stands equipped with modernised threat‑mitigation capabilities to ensure safe and secure skies for the region. The Army and Assam Rifles had earlier conducted similar training programmes for CISF personnel.

The CISF is responsible for securing most airports in the Northeastern region, including MBB Airport in Agartala, which is the second busiest airport in the region after Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati.
