Hanumangarh, July 23 (IANS) Heavy rainfall in Rajasthan has once again led to flood‑like conditions in Makkasar village of Hanumangarh district, leaving around 20–30 houses submerged and forcing several families to vacate their homes. The renewed spell of monsoon rains comes as the monsoon trough line passes through Bikaner, bringing widespread rainfall to several parts of the state.
According to residents, the rain began around 3:00 a.m. and continued until 5:30 a.m., inundating homes and streets. Villagers alleged that despite repeated assurances after last year’s flooding, the administration failed to improve the area’s drainage system. Locals said over 30 houses have been submerged this year, compared to more than 100 houses affected during last year’s floods.
They claimed authorities had promised to create a proper drainage system after the previous flooding, but no concrete work had been carried out even after a year.
“Last year around 150 houses were affected. This time, nearly 40 to 45 houses are already under water after just the first spell of rain. If heavy rainfall continues, 200 to 250 houses could be affected,” one resident said, alleging that the administration had not fulfilled its earlier commitments.
Meanwhile, water has begun flowing into the Ghaggar River, prompting the district administration to step up flood preparedness. District Collector Khushal Yadav inspected embankment strengthening work in the Tibbi area on Wednesday amid forecasts of increased water inflow into the river.
He directed officials to complete reinforcement work on priority and closely monitor vulnerable locations.
The Collector reviewed embankment strengthening work between Ghaggar Diversion Channel (GDC) and canal Reduced Distance/Distributary (42 RD) and instructed officials to ensure quality construction while expediting the remaining work.
According to meteorologist Narpat Singh Rathore, the second phase of the southwest monsoon has remained active over Rajasthan for the past three days and is expected to continue for another three days.
He said Wagad, Mewar and Hadoti regions are likely to receive widespread rainfall, with isolated heavy showers and intermittent light to moderate rain in several districts over the coming days.
