Mumbai, July 23 (IANS) NITI Aayog has initiated a competitive developmental benchmark among states across key indicators directly impacting human life. To ensure Maharashtra achieves the top position nationwide across all Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) parameters, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday directed all government departments to formulate structured, outcome‑driven plans for the next four years.
Addressing a review meeting on NITI Aayog’s SDG parameters, CM Fadnavis called for intensive development efforts across 10 designated aspirational districts and 177 aspirational talukas to maintain Maharashtra’s lead in governance and progress.
He emphasised that the next four years are pivotal for the state’s growth, urging departments to restructure, strengthen ongoing schemes and align budget allocations directly with accelerating these goals.
CM Fadnavis instructed every department to analyse their specific performance indicators and upgrade administrative procedures and policies accordingly. He urged officials to study best practices and innovative concepts implemented by top‑performing states to boost Maharashtra’s execution.
To build a more efficient administration, he directed departments to collect real‑time data, conduct analytical studies and benchmark performance against other states. “Where official numbers conflict with ground realities, identifying ‘data gaps’ is essential. Beyond secondary data, we must strengthen primary and real‑time data collection systems. Analysing existing databases will help us pinpoint specific lagging regions or sectors and implement immediate corrective measures,” he said.
Highlighting the healthcare sector, CM Fadnavis noted that while medical infrastructure is being provided, administration must move toward outcome‑based evaluation, measuring patient metrics before and after interventions to verify true impact.
He instructed departments across health, education, infrastructure and social development to measure tangible changes and adapt policies accordingly, establishing an outcome‑ and impact‑driven work culture.
He also directed departments to leverage Maharashtra’s abundant financial, human and administrative resources effectively to improve citizens’ quality of life.
He said NITI Aayog’s SDG parameters should be treated as a mirror reflecting state progress, with reviews every three months alongside monitoring by the Chief Secretary.
He added that SDG performance parameters will be integrated into the Annual Performance Appraisal Report (APAR) for all administrative officers as a key performance indicator.
