Tempo traveller rams tipper from behind in Maharashtra’s Wardha, 17 injured

Wardha (Maharashtra), Aug 22 (IANS) At least 17 passengers were injured, several of them seriously, after a tempo traveller rammed into a tipper truck from behind near Ramana Phata on the Seloo-Wardha road in Maharashtra’s Wardha district on Saturday.

The accident occurred around 2 p.m., when the tempo traveller, bearing registration number DD03W9666, was carrying passengers from Nagpur towards Nashik for a pilgrimage.

According to preliminary information, the tipper was turning towards Wardha near Ramana Phata when the tempo traveller, allegedly travelling at high speed, crashed into it from behind.

The tipper reportedly did not have a number plate.

The impact was severe, leaving the front portion of the tempo traveller badly damaged.

The driver’s side was crushed, and the driver became trapped inside the cabin.

Residents immediately rushed to the spot and began rescue efforts. It reportedly took nearly an hour to extricate the trapped driver from the wreckage.

All 17 passengers travelling in the tempo traveller sustained injuries.

Women and young children were among those injured.

Several victims are reported to be in serious condition. The injured were rushed to a hospital in Sewagram for treatment.

The identities of the injured have not been officially confirmed by authorities so far.

The crash has once again raised concerns over road safety at Ramana Phata, located on the Wardha-Nagpur highway.

Residents say the junction has witnessed repeated accidents and is increasingly being viewed as a dangerous black spot.

According to residents, vehicles crossing the highway often have limited visibility of fast-moving traffic until the last moment.

They have also raised concerns over the lack of prominent warning signs, speed-control measures and clear instructions for motorists approaching the crossing.

Residents have urged authorities to install adequate warning boards, introduce effective speed-control measures and improve the crossing arrangement to prevent further accidents at the location.
