Siya Goyal’s parents called for questioning in Ketan Agarwal murder case

Pune, June 27 (IANS) Amid the ongoing probe into the Ketan Agarwal murder case, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) (Lonavala division) Gajanan Tompe said on Saturday that parents of the primary accused and the victim’s fiancee Siya Goyal, have been now called in for questioning in connection with the alleged murder.

This comes after police questioned Siya’s younger brother Sahil Goyal for nearly 10 hours on Friday.

Regarding developments in the case, DSP Gajanan Tompe added: “Our investigation is currently at a preliminary stage. We have recorded some statements so far. Under the guidance of the Superintendent of Police, we have formed multiple teams. The investigation is proceeding accordingly.”

“So far we have recorded statements of those people that were essential for the case and will continue to do so,” he told IANS.

Moreover, the senior police official said: “Today, Siya’s parents have been called in for questioning.”

Meanwhile, investigators revealed that Siya Goyal admitted during questioning that she found it easier to eliminate Agarwal than to call off their arranged marriage, as she did not want to disappoint her family.

Police said that during his questioning, her brother Sahil Goyal said that he knew Chetan Chaudhary and that his sister first met him at one of his cricket matches.

According to investigators, Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary became close after reconnecting at a common friend’s Diwali party last year.

Sahil had also reportedly mentioned during his questioning that the family would have cancelled the marriage, had Siya expressed any unwillingness to marry Ketan.

According to officials, Sahil appeared before investigators on Friday morning and was allowed to leave only late in the evening after being extensively questioned.

Officers sought details about Siya’s relationship with co-accused Chetan Chaudhary and verified several aspects of the case.

Police allege that Ketan Agarwal was murdered on June 18 at Lohagad Fort near Pune after being pushed off a cliff by his fiancee, Siya Goyal, 20, and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary, 22.

Investigators suspect the duo had conspired to eliminate Ketan because Siya allegedly no longer wanted to go ahead with their marriage, which was scheduled for November.
