Sarathkumar: Saddened to witness another devastating landslide in Wayanad!
Chennai, July 8 (IANS) Well known Tamil actor and politician Sarathkumar on Wednesday expressed his condolences to the family members of those killed in the landslide that left at least three people dead and several others missing at Wayanad in Kerala on Tuesday.
Taking to his X timeline to express his grief, the well known Tamil actor and politician wrote, “I am saddened to witness another devastating landslide in Wayanad, which has claimed 5 precious lives, while many others are still missing.”
He went on to say, “My heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones, and my prayers are with those who are waiting for the news on their missing relatives. I pray for the safe return and also pray for the speedy recovery of all those who are injured. May strength and hope be with all of you during these difficult times. #WayanadLandslide.”
For the unaware, a landslide that occurred in Wayanad in Kerala claimed at least three lives and left five people missing.
Sources in the know had claimed that rescue operations at the venue of the landslide in Kalladi, Wayanad, would continue on Wednesday as well.
Kerala Ministers T. Siddique and A.P. Anil Kumar have already announced that a comprehensive search will be carried out to trace the five persons still missing.
Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan is expected to visit the site of the incident at around 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
After visiting the affected area, Minister T. Siddique had told reporters late on Tuesday night that only three people had been confirmed dead in the landslide, while five others remained missing.
Meanwhile, former Wayanad Lok Sabha MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, expressed grief over the tragedy.
Taking to his social media timelines, Rahul Gandhi said, “The news of the landslide in Wayanad is deeply distressing. My heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected.”
The Leader of the Opposition further said, “Relief and rescue operations are underway, and every possible effort is being made to reach those still trapped. I appeal to all Congress and UDF workers to extend any assistance in this time of need.”
Pointing out that Wayanad had shown remarkable resilience in the face of adversity before, Rahul Gandhi said that together, they would stand by every affected family through this tragedy.
