Rajasthan: BJP terms Rahul Gandhi’s Kota visit political drama

Jaipur, June 16 (IANS) BJP National General Secretary Sunil Bansal on Tuesday dismissed Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s proposed interaction with students in Kota as “political drama,” questioning the timing of the Congress leader’s visit just days before the NEET examination.

Speaking to reporters during a one-day visit to Kota, Bansal said the Centre had already acted against those involved in the NEET paper leak case and that investigations were progressing.

“Rahul Gandhi is coming to Kota for political drama. Students have their examination in four days. He wants to interact with them at such a time; it’s difficult to understand the logic behind it,” Bansal said. Gandhi is scheduled to visit Kota on June 17 to interact with students and youth on issues such as paper leaks, unemployment and academic stress.

Defending the Centre’s handling of the NEET controversy, Bansal said action had been taken against the accused, and the matter was under investigation.

Taking a swipe at the newly floated “Cockroach Party” in West Bengal, Bansal said similar political experiments had been attempted in the past but had failed. “Such experiments have been conducted in the country before, and everyone knows their outcome. This experiment will meet the same fate,” he remarked.

Commenting on West Bengal politics, Bansal expressed confidence about the BJP’s prospects in the State, claiming that people were looking for an alternative after decades of corruption and lawlessness.

“For nearly 50 years, the people of Bengal have suffered due to corruption and goonda raj. There is a strong desire for change, and people are increasingly supporting the BJP,” he said.

He also clarified reports of political realignments in West Bengal, stating that around 20 MPs associated with the ruling dispensation had not joined the BJP but had instead aligned with another political formation, extending support to the NDA from outside.

Bansal used the occasion to highlight the Narendra Modi government’s achievements over the past 12 years, saying the Centre’s policies had focused on development, public welfare and strengthening public trust.

Senior BJP leaders, including Education and Panchayati Raj Minister Madan Dilawar, Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar, Kota South MLA Sandeep Sharma, MLA Kalpana Devi, BJP city president Rakesh Jain, former MLA Chandrakanta Meghwal and other party office-bearers, were present during the press conference.

Earlier in the day, Bansal was welcomed at Kota railway station by party leaders and workers. He is also scheduled to attend the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sammelan at a coaching institute in Jawahar Nagar later in the evening.
