Guwahati, Aug 30 (IANS) New Jalpaiguri Railway Station is being upgraded with modern infrastructure and enhanced passenger facilities to strengthen its role as a key railway gateway to North Bengal and the Northeast region, officials said.

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said on Saturday that major upgradation of New Jalpaiguri Railway Station is aimed at significantly enhancing passenger convenience, accessibility and overall station experience.

“The project will provide modern infrastructure and improved facilities, strengthening New Jalpaiguri’s role as an important railway gateway in North Bengal and the Northeast region,” he added.

Master plan for the project covers the major upgradation/redevelopment of New Jalpaiguri Junction Railway Station under Katihar Division of Northeast Frontier Railway, the official said.

Northeast Frontier Railway (Construction) General Manager Ashish Bansal recently conducted inspection of the ongoing major upgradation and redevelopment works at New Jalpaiguri Railway Station.

He was accompanied by senior officials from NFR Headquarters (Construction) and concerned divisional authorities.

During the inspection, Bansal reviewed the progress of various infrastructure and passenger amenity works being undertaken to transform the station into a modern, state-of-the-art and passenger-friendly railway facility.

During the inspection, the General Manager (Construction) reviewed the progress of key components of the project, including the arrival terminal buildings, departure terminal, elevated road, podium parking facilities, air concourse, new Foot Over Bridges (FOBs), platform development works, surface roads and other associated passenger amenities.

The redevelopment plan also includes improved vehicular circulation, dedicated parking facilities, pedestrian drop-off areas and enhanced connectivity between different station facilities.

Bansal took stock of the progress of works at different locations and emphasised the need for close monitoring, effective coordination and timely completion of the project while maintaining the required standards of safety and quality.

The concerned officials and executing agencies were advised to expedite the ongoing works and ensure adherence to the targeted completion schedules.

The NFR, headquartered at Maligaon near Guwahati, operates across the Northeastern states as well as in seven districts of West Bengal and five districts of Bihar.
