NCOPS, Bengaluru prepares Pharmacy graduates for industry-ready careers in the Pharmaceutical Sector

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], September 2: Nitte College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (NCOPS), Nitte University, Bengaluru, is positioning its BPharm and MPharm programs around a shared principle – pharmaceutical education works best when students train on the same equipment and processes they will encounter in industry. Across both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, spanning specializations in Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs, the institution has built its curriculum around certified facilities, industry-aligned training and consistent research output.

Facilities and Curriculum built for Industry Transition

NCOPS runs a CPCSEA-approved animal house for preclinical studies, giving students hands-on exposure to in vivo research models, ethical animal handling and data recording aligned with OECD and GLP protocols. A pilot-scale manufacturing facility offers real-time exposure to formulation, scale-up and process development, tools that students carry directly into industrial pharmaceutical careers.

The BPharm program adds smart classrooms, GPAT coaching support and a herbal garden with over 80 medicinal plant species for pharmacognosy training, alongside modular laboratories fitted with instruments including HPLC, auto analyzers and centrifuges for everyday practical learning. At the MPharm level, students work with equipment such as fluidized bed dryers, stability chambers, USP dissolution apparatus and GastroPlus simulation software for in-silico formulation modeling, along with modules on Quality by Design and Regulatory documentation aligned with international CTD, IND and NDA standards. The Pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs specialization, prepares students for the regulatory and compliance aspects of drug development and approval.

Faculty expertise is a key strength across both programs, with active involvement in research that continually enriches teaching through case studies, project work and thesis opportunities. Research initiatives have received funding from prestigious organizations such as the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK), RGUHS, Karnataka State Pharmacy Council and MAHE’s Institute of Regenerative Medicine.

Placements across a broad range of roles

BPharm graduates move into roles spanning quality control, quality assurance, production, regulatory affairs, clinical research and pharmacovigilance, with recruiters including Biocon, Micro Labs, Alembic Pharmaceuticals, Medtronic, Omega Healthcare and IQVIA among the institution’s active placement partners.

At the MPharm level, graduates are recruited by companies including Cipla, Dr. Reddy’s, Biocon, Sun Pharma, Syngene and Lupin, alongside contract research organizations such as IQVIA, Parexel and ICON, into roles spanning research & development, pharmacovigilance and regulatory affairs. Around 90 percent of Pharmacology graduates move into placements, while the rest pursue higher studies. Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs graduates pursue opportunities across formulation, production, regulatory writing, compliance and regulatory affairs roles, with international opportunities in regulated markets across the US and Europe.

“India’s role as a global pharmaceutical hub means the bar for graduates continues to rise. Regulatory expectations, research rigor and speed to market, are all becoming more demanding. Institutions that fail to evolve their training in step with these realities, risk producing graduates who are qualified on paper but underprepared for practice” [Dr. V. Kusum Devi, Principal, NCOPS]

Looking ahead

With certified preclinical and pilot-scale facilities, a growing base of PhD-qualified faculty and consistent placement traction across pharmaceutical, biotech and research organizations, NCOPS, Nitte University, Bengaluru, continues to build a pharmaceutical sciences program designed around direct industry transition rather than classroom theory alone.

Applications for NCOPS’s BPharm and MPharm programs are open. Prospective students can find detailed information on specializations, faculty and placement records on the official NCOPS website.
