Minor girl sexually assaulted by five juveniles in Bengal’s Dinhata
Kolkata, Sep 2 (IANS) Five juveniles have been accused of sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl in West Bengal’s Cooch Behar district, police said on Wednesday. The incident was reported from a locality under the Dinhata Police Station area.
The incident took place in the area adjacent to the city under Dinhata police station on Sunday. The minor’s mother filed a complaint with the police late on Tuesday night demanding action against the culprits.
The 5-year-old girl reportedly fell ill after the assault. She was admitted to Dinhata Sub-district hospital, where she is still undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, the accused absconded as soon as the complaint was filed at the Dinhata police station. The police have launched a search for them.
An official of Cooch Behar district police said that based on a complaint filed by the minor’s mother, the entire incident will be investigated and appropriate action will be taken.
According to police and local sources, the minor’s house is in a village adjacent to Dinhata city. No one was at home on Sunday at the time of the incident. Five minors from the neighbourhood allegedly entered the house and sexually abused the minor.
The minor’s mother came to know about the incident after she returned home in the evening. Some people tried to cover up the matter. The minor’s mother was even offered money to keep her mouth shut.
However, the victim’s mother stuck to her decision and lodged a complaint with the police.
The minor’s mother told media persons, “My husband is mentally unstable. I went out. At that time, five people from the area sexually abused my daughter. She fell ill. That’s why I admitted her to the hospital. I want the culprits punished.”
The incident has sparked outrage in the area. BJP MLA from Dinhata, Ajay Ray, said such incidents were unacceptable and urged the police to take action in accordance with the law.
