Khagaria cops nab criminal after encounter under ‘Operation Langda’; accused tried to snatch pistol from SI

Patna, July 15 (IANS) In a swift operation under the ongoing ‘Operation Langda’ initiative, Bihar’s Khagaria Police apprehended a notorious criminal following a late-night encounter on the Sakrohar-Kurvan road under the Beldaur police station area.

According to Khagaria’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhanu Pratap Singh, the incident occurred while the Beldaur police were conducting an intensive vehicle-checking drive.

During the operation, officers stopped three men riding a motorcycle for inspection.

As police began questioning and searching them, the suspects allegedly resisted and entered into a scuffle with the police personnel.

Amid the chaos, one of the accused snatched the service pistol of a Sub-Inspector before all three attempted to flee under the cover of darkness.

The police immediately launched a chase to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

During the pursuit, one of the accused, identified as Akhilesh Sada, allegedly confronted the police again.

According to the police, he attempted to attack the officers after being cornered.

Acting in self-defence, the police first fired a warning shot into the air and subsequently opened fire, hitting Akhilesh Sada in the leg.

The injured accused fell to the ground and was immediately taken into custody.

He was admitted to Sadar Hospital, Khagaria, where he is undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, the two other accused managed to escape from the spot.

Police have launched raids at multiple locations to trace and arrest the absconding suspects.

Khagaria SP, Bhanu Pratap Singh, said the encounter occurred after the accused allegedly snatched a police officer’s service weapon and attempted to flee.

He added that further investigation is underway, and efforts are continuing to apprehend the remaining suspects.

An FIR has been registered against Akhilesh Sada in the Beldaur police station under relevant sections of the BNS.

On May 13, the prime accused in the Rajasan double murder case in Bihar’s Vaishali district was injured in a police encounter after allegedly opening fire on a police team attempting to arrest him.
