Kerala Police goes smart as AI Track, Cyber Wall initiatives launched

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 18 (IANS) Kerala Police is set to get a major technology upgrade with the state government launching three new digital initiatives aimed at preventing road accidents, making policing more responsive, and strengthening the fight against cybercrime.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday launched the AI Track, Integrated Beat Management System, and Cyber Wall, describing them as significant steps towards creating a faster, more efficient and technology-driven police force.

The initiatives, being implemented as part of the Home Department’s 100-day programme, are aimed at ensuring that police services reach citizens faster while strengthening public safety.

The AI Track, developed using artificial intelligence, will analyse road and traffic conditions to identify potential accident risks and help alert the public in time.

The system is intended to make accident prevention more scientific by identifying danger zones and emerging traffic risks before they result in accidents.

Chennithala said the ultimate objective was to reduce road accidents to the minimum and eventually work towards eliminating them.

He described AI Track as one of the Kerala Police’s most important interventions in road-safety management.

The Integrated Beat Management System will bring the police force’s different patrolling mechanisms onto a single digital platform.

The system is expected to allow officers to monitor and coordinate patrols more effectively, enabling quicker intervention during emergencies, and improving police response times.

The third initiative, Cyber Wall, comes against the backdrop of a sharp rise in cybercrime.

Developed by Kerala Police personnel, the system will function as an AI-powered digital security assistant, providing services ranging from cyber security awareness and information verification to emergency assistance.

More than 600 police personnel have already been trained to operate the new systems, the minister said.

The three technology initiatives would mark a significant step towards transforming Kerala Police into a more digitally connected, responsive, and citizen-oriented force, he added.

Chennithala also sought to put to rest the controversy surrounding the removal of a news report from a social media platform, saying neither the state government nor Kerala Police had asked Meta to remove it.

“Neither officially nor unofficially” had such a request been made, he said, adding that Meta should explain why the report was removed.

On Governor–police relations, the minister said the police functioned according to the established government system and not on the instructions of the Governor, in an apparent reference to the Governor summoning the state police chief.

Chennithala also warned that there would be no preferential treatment for anyone involved in drug offences, including those personally known to him.

Even if an accused had a personal connection with him, strict legal action would follow, he said.
