Gujarat: Six cops elevated to IPS to continue in existing assignments

Gandhinagar, July 14 (IANS) The Gujarat government has formally appointed six newly inducted Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to continue in their existing assignments after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) promoted them from the Gujarat Police Service to the IPS under the Select List 2025.

In a notification issued by the Home Department on Tuesday, Principal Secretary Sanjeev Kumar said the appointments were made pursuant to the MHA’s notification dated July 2, which promoted the officers to the IPS and allocated them to the Gujarat cadre.

The state government has appointed the officers in situ, allowing them to officiate in their present postings without any immediate transfer.

The officers covered by the notification are Rajdipsinh Nakum, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Operation Group, Surat City; Bharatkumar Rathod, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone-2, Ahmedabad City; Praful Vania, Superintendent of Police (Intelligence), Gandhinagar; Rajeshkumar Parmar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone-6, Surat City; Kalpeshkumar Chawda, Commandant, State Reserve Police Force Group-8, Gondal; and Rakesh Desai, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone-2, Rajkot City.

The state government’s notification follows the Union Home Ministry’s Gazette notification issued, under which the President appointed the six Gujarat Police Service officers to the Indian Police Service on probation under the Indian Police Service (Recruitment) Rules, 1954 and the Indian Police Service (Appointment by Promotion) Regulations, 1955.

The officers were allocated to the Gujarat cadre under the Select List 2025.

According to the MHA order, the six officers will remain on probation for one year in accordance with the Indian Police Service (Probation) Rules, 1954, and will undergo induction training as prescribed under the rules.

The appointments are part of the annual promotion process through which eligible State Police Service officers are inducted into the IPS against vacancies in the promotion quota.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Home Affairs determined six vacancies for Gujarat’s Select List 2025 after noting that the state’s authorised promotion quota stood at 63 posts and six vacancies had arisen following retirements during 2025.
