Gandhinagar, June 29 (IANS) The Petition Committees of the Gujarat and Haryana Legislative Assemblies held a joint meeting in Gandhinagar on Monday, focusing on democratic traditions, parliamentary procedures and mechanisms for the transparent redressal of public grievances.

The meeting at the Gujarat Legislative Assembly brought together members of the committees from both states to exchange experiences and discuss their respective working practices with the objective of strengthening legislative processes.

Deputy Speaker of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, Purnesh Modi, said Gujarat and Haryana are both recognised for their rich cultural heritage and strong democratic traditions.

He noted that while Haryana is known for its valour and achievements in sports, Gujarat has earned global recognition for its entrepreneurial spirit, business outlook and cultural diversity.

“Both states have made significant contributions to India’s democratic journey,” Modi said.

Emphasising the role of the Petition Committee, he said it serves as an effective platform for carrying the voice of the people directly to the Legislative Assembly by hearing citizens’ grievances and taking concrete steps towards their resolution.

“The Petition Committees of both states share a common commitment to understanding parliamentary rules, ensuring transparency in their functioning and resolving public issues,” he said.

Haryana Petition Committee Chairman Vinod Bhayana said the principal purpose of such inter-state visits was to strengthen the parliamentary system through the exchange of ideas and working practices between the two committees.

“This process will further strengthen relations between the two states and allow more accurate, positive and appropriate resolution of public grievances and issues brought before the committees, thereby giving greater momentum to people-centric work,” Bhayana said.

Participants also stressed the importance of strengthening ties between Gujarat and Haryana under the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’, highlighting the complementary strengths of Haryana in sports and valour and Gujarat in business and entrepreneurship.

The meeting was attended by Haryana Petition Committee members Shakuntala Khatak, Lakshman Singh Yadav and Chandra Prakash; Gujarat MLAs Manu Patel and Kalu Dabhi; Joint Secretary of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly Secretariat, Rita Mehta; Deputy Secretary Chirag Patel; and Petition Committee Secretary and Deputy Secretary Parth Prajapati.
