CM Yadav urges MP farmers to register digital IDs

Bhopal, Aug 28 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Friday urged farmers across the state to register for digital Farmer IDs, saying government officials were reaching their doorsteps to facilitate the process that began on August 20.

The Chief Minister said government teams were personally visiting farmers to help them create their digital identities and urged all farmers to avail themselves of the facility.

Yadav said the Farmer ID would provide farmers with a reliable digital identity and facilitate timely and personalised access to agriculture-related information and government services.

“The Farmer ID, akin to the Aadhaar card, has been introduced to provide timely, personalised and highly reliable access to agriculture-related information and services. This ID serves as a trusted digital identity for farmers,” he said in a statement.

The Farmer ID is being created under the Digital Agriculture Mission, a comprehensive initiative aimed at extending digital infrastructure and services to the agriculture sector. It will be linked with important farmer-related information, including land records, livestock ownership, crops sown and benefits received.

The integrated digital identity is expected to make access to government schemes and agriculture-related services more streamlined and reliable.

The registration exercise in Madhya Pradesh started on August 20, with field-level government teams assisting farmers in the process. Yadav said the digital transformation seen in other sectors needed to be extended to agriculture as well.

“The country’s digital revolution, spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has brought about significant transformations in governance and service delivery in recent years through digital identity, secure payments and seamless transactions,” he said.

The Digital Agriculture Mission includes creation of digital public infrastructure, digital crop estimation surveys and adoption of digital initiatives by the Centre and state governments, as well as agricultural education and research institutions.

The state government has been expanding farmer-centric digital public infrastructure to the village and individual farmer levels as part of the initiative. Pilot projects for creating Farmer IDs and testing digital crop surveys had earlier been conducted in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Haryana, Punjab and Tamil Nadu.

The Madhya Pradesh government has now begun implementing the Farmer ID exercise across the state through door-to-door assistance, with the Chief Minister urging farmers to participate in the registration process.
