Chandigarh, July 1 (IANS) In yet another proud moment for the Union Territory Cricket Association (UTCA), Chandigarh cricketer Nandini Sharma has been selected in the Indian Women’s squad for the 2026 Asian Games which is scheduled to be held in Aichi-Nagoya in Japan in September.
The Indian women’s team will be entering in the competition as the defending champions after winning the gold at the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou in China held from September 23 to October 8, 2023.
Nandini has been rewarded for her impressive performances across various domestic and national competitions.
Earlier this year, she represented India A in the ACC Rising Star Women’s Asia Cup, gaining valuable international exposure.
Having represented both Punjab and UTCA in BCCI-organised tournaments at the Under-19, Under-23 and Senior levels, Nandini has consistently excelled in major domestic competitions, including the Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal tournaments, Women’s T20 Challenger Trophy and Senior Women’s One-Day Challenger Trophy.
Her association with Delhi Capitals Women in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) also played a significant role in her development at the highest level.
Her performances in the league showcased her ability to compete against some of the world’s leading cricketers and later ensured her berth at the ongoing World Cup T20 Indian squad for England.
Expressing his delight, UTCA President Saraansh Tandon said, “Nandini’s selection in the Indian team for the Asian Games is a matter of immense pride for Chandigarh and UTCA. She has earned this opportunity through her dedication, discipline and consistent performances over the years. We are confident that she will make a significant contribution to the Indian team and continue to inspire young cricketers from the region.”
