BJP’s 31 months rule in Rajasthan better than Congress’s 5 years: CM Sharma

Jaipur, Aug 20 (IANS) Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Thursday claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Rajasthan had delivered more development work in 31 months than the Congress could accomplish during its five‑year tenure, as he called on party workers to intensify their outreach ahead of the upcoming civic elections.

Addressing BJP leaders and workers at a strategy meeting in Jaipur, Sharma urged them to take the government’s achievements to every section of society and engage directly with voters. “The BJP government has done in 31 months what the Congress could not do even in five years, and it will not be able to do so in the future either,” he said.

Sharma asked party workers to highlight the achievements of the BJP’s “double‑engine government” and expressed confidence that voters would bless the party in the civic polls. A BJP victory, he said, would pave the way for a “triple‑engine government” to accelerate development across Rajasthan.

The meeting was attended by BJP State President Madan Rathore, State General Secretary (Organisation) Ajay Kumar, Minister Jogaram Patel and State General Secretary Shravan Bagdi, along with the party’s 2023 assembly election candidates. Discussions focused on strategy for the civic polls, communicating the state government’s achievements, strengthening grassroots outreach and ensuring victory across urban local bodies.

Sharma said the BJP government had undertaken extensive development and good‑governance initiatives during its 31 months in office, bringing positive changes to the lives of people across Rajasthan. He highlighted decisions taken in the interests of women, low-income people, youth and farmers, noting that more than 35 policies had been introduced with transparency and accountability as priorities.

He said people in Rajasthan had been frustrated with alleged misgovernance under the previous Congress government. After assuming office, the BJP government worked to provide relief to citizens and strengthen direct communication between the government and the people. “Government‑to‑people connect has become stronger than ever,” he said.

Sharma listed key achievements, including tap‑water connections to more than 1.5 million households under the Jal Jeevan Mission, total installed power capacity reaching 34,279 MW, over 230,000 agricultural electricity connections and 1.2 million domestic connections. He said more than 260,000 rooftop solar plants had been installed under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

He added that nearly 50,000 km of roads had been constructed, connecting 1,758 villages with paved roads, and pointed to the completion of the petrochemical refinery project in western Rajasthan involving an investment of Rs 80,000 crore. Under the Annapurna Rasoi scheme, the quantity of food served was increased from 450 grams to 600 grams, with an emphasis on quality meals.

Sharma said farmers were receiving Rs 9,000 directly into their bank accounts through the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi. In urban areas, more than 100,000 houses had been completed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, with construction of nearly another 100,000 underway. He said the government had received investment proposals worth Rs 35 lakh crore under the Rising Rajasthan initiative, with projects involving Rs 9 lakh crore moving toward implementation.

He said the government was working to establish Rajasthan as a leader in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, machine learning and semiconductors. Around 1.89 lakh young people had been provided government jobs, while a recruitment calendar covering 1.25 lakh posts had been issued. He stressed the government’s zero‑tolerance policy towards paper leaks and commitment to transparent governance.

BJP State President Madan Rathore said the party remained active 24×7 with a strong organisational structure down to the booth level. He said ticket distribution for the civic elections would prioritise grassroots workers with clean images and electoral potential.

State General Secretary (Organisation) Ajay Kumar said coordination between the government and the organisation would play a crucial role in the civic elections. He said effective mobilisation and sustained outreach would help the BJP secure a historic victory.

The meeting concluded with a call to intensify grassroots engagement, communicate achievements and strengthen the BJP’s position across Rajasthan’s urban local bodies.
