Assam schools nearing full infrastructure saturation: CM Sarma

Guwahati, July 7 (IANS) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday asserted that the transformation of the state’s government schools is now visible across Assam, highlighting major improvements in basic infrastructure and digital learning facilities.

In a post on social media platform X, the chief minister said the state government is now focusing on bridging the remaining infrastructure gaps to achieve complete saturation across all government schools.

He wrote that facts matter, and the transformation of Assam’s schools is already visible across the state. With almost every school now equipped with essential infrastructure, they are zeroing in on the remaining gaps to reach 100 per cent saturation.

Sharing an infographic titled “Transformed Schools, Viksit Assam”, Sarma highlighted key achievements made by the Education Department under the present government. According to the data released by the state government, 98.47 per cent of government schools in Assam now have access to electricity, marking a significant improvement in basic infrastructure across educational institutions.

The government also claimed that all schools in the state have achieved 100 per cent coverage of girls’ toilets, a move aimed at improving sanitation facilities and encouraging higher enrolment and retention of girl students.

The infographic further stated that 91.5 per cent of eligible government schools have been equipped with digital learning facilities, reflecting the state’s emphasis on integrating technology into classroom education.

The chief minister said these achievements are part of the government’s broader vision of building a “Viksit Assam” through sustained investment in the education sector.

Over the past few years, the Assam government has launched several initiatives to modernise school infrastructure, improve teaching standards, strengthen digital education and enhance access to quality education, particularly in rural and remote areas.

Officials said efforts are continuing to ensure that the remaining schools receive electricity connectivity, digital infrastructure, and other essential facilities, so that every government school in the state meets the prescribed standards.

The state government has repeatedly stated that improving educational infrastructure remains one of its key priorities as it seeks to create a more inclusive, technology-driven school education system.
