After US-Canada visit, CM Patel meets Suzuki Motors over fresh Gujarat investment
Gandhinagar, Aug 27 (IANS) Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday began a series of investment-focused meetings soon after returning from his visit to the United States and Canada, meeting a Suzuki Motors delegation in Gandhinagar to discuss further investment and expansion of the automobile sector in the state.
The meeting centred on Suzuki Motors’ interest in increasing its investment in Gujarat and expanding its presence in the state.
Discussions also covered ways to strengthen state’s automobile ecosystem and give further momentum to the sector.
The development comes shortly after Patel’s overseas visit, during which investment and industrial development were among the key areas of engagement.
On his return early Thursday morning, the Chief Minister has moved into discussions with industry representatives in Gujarat, with the automobile sector featuring prominently in the first set of meetings.
During the meeting with the Suzuki Motors delegation, both sides discussed various possibilities for expanding the company’s presence in Gujarat and attracting further investment into the state.
The discussions also focused on measures that could support the continued growth of the automobile industry and reinforce Gujarat’s position as an automobile manufacturing hub.
Suzuki already has a major manufacturing presence in Gujarat. Its vehicle manufacturing operations at Hansalpur in Ahmedabad district form part of the state’s established automobile ecosystem, alongside a wider network of component manufacturers and allied industries.
The Gujarat facility has also expanded into electric vehicle production, adding to the state’s growing automotive manufacturing base.
The latest meeting is significant in the context of Gujarat’s efforts to deepen its industrial ecosystem by encouraging existing investors to expand their operations.
Rather than focusing only on attracting new companies, the state has also been seeking to facilitate additional investment by businesses that already have a manufacturing presence in Gujarat.
“The discussions with Suzuki Motors included opportunities for further investment, expansion of the company’s presence and strengthening of the automobile ecosystem. Both sides also deliberated on measures to provide greater momentum to the sector and attract more investment to Gujarat,” officials said.
The meeting marked one of Patel’s first investment-related engagements after his return from the US and Canada, as the state continues to position automobile manufacturing as an important component of its industrial development strategy.
