Gwalior, Sep 2 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will virtually address the Balram Krishi Mahotsav in Sheopur on Wednesday, as the state government holds the farmers’ welfare event across all district headquarters during the ‘Year of Farmers’ Welfare’.

The Sheopur event will be attended by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar.

Similar programmes will be organised in Morena on September 4 and Bhind on September 5 as part of the festival in the Chambal division, according to a statement from the state government on Tuesday.

The state government is using the mahotsav to highlight schemes and initiatives aimed at increasing farmers’ income, expanding irrigation and strengthening agriculture-related sectors.

“The government has set a target of achieving an irrigation capacity of 100 lakh hectares by 2028-29,” the state government said, while setting a target of 490 lakh metric tonnes of horticultural production.

Under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi and Chief Minister Kisan Kalyan Yojana, eligible farmers are receiving Rs 12,000 annually.

The state is also providing permanent electricity connections for irrigation at Rs 5 per unit and subsidies on electric pump connections of up to 10 HP.

Under the PM-KUSUM scheme, solar pumps are being provided with a target of covering 32 lakh farmers.

To strengthen the dairy sector, the state government has set a target of increasing daily milk collection to 50 lakh litres.

About 83,000 members of 5,562 milk cooperative societies are expected to benefit from the initiative.

The state government is offering incentives of up to 60 per cent for investment in food-processing industries and subsidies of up to 50 per cent for agro-based industries.

“During the Year of Farmers’ Welfare, the state government has decided to provide four times the compensation to farmers in cases of agricultural land acquisition,” the statement said.

The state has also facilitated zero-interest repayment of crop loans during the year.

Besides agriculture, the state government has set a target of Rs 6,000 crore in fish exports and expects investments exceeding Rs 12,400 crore in the fisheries sector.

The initiatives are aimed at strengthening farmers’ incomes and promoting growth in agriculture and allied sectors, the state government said.
