Assam CM announces benefits for graduates, flood-hit families

Guwahati, Sep 1 (IANS) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Tuesday that three key government initiatives aimed at supporting graduates, flood-affected families and youth seeking global employment opportunities have been rolled out across the state.

Speaking while attending a government programme, CM Sarma noted that benefits under the initiatives had reached thousands of beneficiaries with the push of a button.

The Chief Minister said more than 47,000 recent graduates had received benefits under the Jibon Prerana scheme, while interim flood relief had been provided to more than 16,000 families.

He also announced the launch of the CM-FLIGHT financial assistance initiative aimed at strengthening foreign-language skills among Assam’s youth.

Chief Minister Sarma said that 2025 graduates woke up on Tuesday to receive the Jibon Prerana benefit for the last four months directly in their bank accounts.

Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive Rs 10,000 per month, with the assistance intended to provide financial support to young graduates as they pursue their career and professional aspirations.

“Jibon Prerana” is aimed at helping recent graduates deal with the transition from education to employment while giving them greater financial flexibility to pursue further opportunities.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the potential of the newly launched CM-FLIGHT initiative to expand employment opportunities for young people by providing financial assistance for foreign-language learning.

Chief Minister Sarma said foreign-language proficiency would help Assam’s youth access better employment opportunities in the global market.

At the same time, the Chief Minister added that such skills could increasingly prove valuable within India as more international and multinational companies establish or expand their operations in the country.

He said the initiative would therefore not only prepare young people for jobs abroad but also help them secure high-paying employment opportunities within India.

The Chief Minister added that the state government’s initiatives were focused on directly delivering assistance to people and creating opportunities for young people to build their careers

The three measures come as part of the Assam government’s broader efforts to strengthen social support mechanisms, provide relief to families affected by floods and enhance the employability of the state’s growing youth population.

Chief Minister Sarma said the initiatives were designed to ensure that government support reaches beneficiaries directly while equipping Assam’s youth with skills that can help them compete for emerging employment opportunities in an increasingly globalised economy.
