Kolkata, Aug 29 (IANS) As a fresh low pressure area is looming in the Bay of Bengal, south Bengal districts are likely to receive more rain in the next three days, said the Met office on Saturday.

According to Habibur Rahman Biswas, Eastern Regional Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Kolkata, there is currently a cyclonic circulation in the north Bay of Bengal area adjacent to the coast of Bangladesh and West Bengal.

Due to its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form in the Bengal and Odisha coastal areas adjacent to the north Bay of Bengal on Saturday.

Due to its influence, there will be light to moderate rain in various districts of south Bengal from today.

Along with this, there is a possibility of heavy rain in one or two places, mainly in the coastal districts.

Due to the concentration of low pressure, there is a possibility of gusty winds in the north Bay of Bengal and areas adjacent to the coast of West Bengal, Bangladesh and Odisha, along with rain and thunderclouds, which may cause lightning.

“Heavy rain with thundershowers is likely at one or two places in North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas districts in the next 24 hours. There is a possibility of heavy rain in Kolkata, Hooghly, Howrah and East Midnapore districts. Very heavy to heavy rain is expected in East Midnapore, South 24 Parganas and Howrah districts tomorrow and heavy rain in South 24 Parganas, Jhargram, Bankura districts,” said the Met Department official.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the deep sea for the next three days from today.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rain is likely at many places in north Bengal. Today, there may be rain at one or two places in Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar districts, but the rain in north Bengal will be less in the next two to three days.

In Kolkata, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms in Kolkata and its surrounding areas today and tomorrow.

On Friday, the maximum temperature in Kolkata and its surrounding areas was 32.6 degrees Celsius, which is 0.1 degrees Celsius below normal. The minimum temperature was 27.2 degrees Celsius, which is 0.6 degrees above normal. The relative humidity in the air was maximum 94 per cent and minimum 69 per cent.
