The special drive was launched on the directions of senior officers to strengthen preventive checking and apprehend vehicle thieves. Police said Sonu had previously worked as an autorickshaw driver and had been involved in several theft cases and a case under the Arms Act. His further criminal antecedents are being verified.

Police also worked out a car theft case registered under e-FIR No. 17932/26. Investigators conducted extensive CCTV analysis, technical surveillance and field verification to trace the vehicle. Searches were carried out at Dhansa Border, Lohat village in Haryana, Gurugram and other locations.

Following a specific input, the team reached Jafar Mahal Road in Mehrauli, where it apprehended 45-year-old Sunil along with the stolen Creta. Police said he was taken on police remand for further investigation.
