Gujarat CM hails ‘vibrant’ India at Akshardham

Washington, Aug 23 (IANS) Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has praised the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham in New Jersey for bringing India’s ancient culture to life and carrying the country’s spiritual heritage to communities around the world.

Patel visited the Hindu temple complex in Robbinsville on Saturday as part of his United States tour linked to the Vibrant Gujarat initiative. It is the first visit by a Gujarat Chief Minister to the US in nearly 30 years.

“From my heart, I thank all the BAPS volunteers for their contributions to the construction of Akshardham, which will inspire many generations to come,” Patel said.

“Everyone who comes here from across the world will find peace, wherever he or she is from.”

Accompanied by senior BAPS leaders and Gujarat government officials, the Chief Minister toured the Akshardham complex and expressed appreciation for its presentation of India’s spiritual and cultural heritage, its community service and the dedication of its volunteers.

He also underlined the importance of preserving cultural values among Indians living abroad. Akshardham, he said, nurtured and celebrated India’s cultural heritage in the United States.

Brahmaviharidas Swami, a senior member of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, said Patel was moved by the temple’s architecture, scale and spiritual atmosphere.

“It was a privilege to have Gujarat’s Honorable Chief Minister, Bhupendrabhai Patel, visit BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham in Robbinsville today,” he said.

“Not only was he overwhelmed and fascinated by the beautiful carvings and the sheer size and scale of the Mandir, but he was deeply touched by its serene and spiritual environment.”

While touring the museum, Patel remarked: “You brought India’s ancient culture back to life.”

The Chief Minister received a special tour of the Akshardham Museum, which is under construction. It is planned as one of the first Hindu American museums dedicated to presenting India’s heritage and culture.

The museum will have 12 architectural replicas, 40 multimedia shows, 85 immersive dioramas and 200 lifelike statues.

Patel described it as a landmark that would give visitors of different ages and backgrounds an opportunity to engage with the universal ideals of faith, harmony, compassion, family values and selfless service.

He said these principles continued to guide Gujarat’s progress, strengthen India’s cultural identity and remain relevant to people across the world.

Patel also met volunteers serving at Akshardham and commended their discipline, humility, hospitality and spirit of seva, or selfless service. Their collective contribution, he said, helped create a welcoming and meaningful experience for visitors.

Reflecting on the purpose of his US tour, Patel said his visit was focused on Vibrant Gujarat but India’s culture was vibrant at BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham. He described the complex as more than a place of worship, calling it a celebration of culture, art, spirituality and enduring values.

Delegates and community leaders from across the United States attended the reception for Patel.
