Gujarat: Over 2,300 senior citizens receive safety outreach from Police’s SHE Teams

Gandhinagar, Aug 22 (IANS) Gujarat Police’s SHE Teams visited more than 2,300 senior citizens across the state as part of a statewide outreach initiative for ‘World Senior Citizen Day’, meeting elderly residents at their homes to hear their concerns and provide guidance on safety and available assistance.

The initiative focused on direct interaction with senior citizens, particularly to understand their security concerns and ensure they have access to police support when required.

Teams across cities and districts made courtesy visits to elderly residents and spent time speaking to them about their safety, security and well-being.

Ajay Chaudhary, Additional Director General of Police (CID Crime, Women Cell), Gujarat, said respecting elders was not only a social responsibility but also a duty towards those who had made important contributions to society.

“The primary objective of World Senior Citizen Day was to recognise the contributions, experience and rights of senior citizens while creating awareness about their health, safety and overall well-being,” he said.

Under the supervision of Director General of Police (DGP) Gyanendra Singh Malik, police personnel were encouraged to interact meaningfully with elderly residents, listen to their grievances and make them feel supported rather than isolated or neglected.

During the visits, SHE Teams addressed concerns raised by senior citizens and provided information and guidance relating to their safety and the assistance available to them.

The police said the direct outreach was intended to make it easier for elderly residents to communicate their concerns and seek help when necessary.

The statewide initiative also sought to strengthen interaction between the police and senior citizens and sensitise police personnel to the specific needs and concerns of the elderly.

Gujarat Police said such direct engagement would help foster a safer, more supportive environment for senior citizens while reinforcing the police’s role as an accessible point of assistance for elderly residents.
