Kolkata, Aug 22 (IANS) The Regional Meteorological Centre in Kolkata on Saturday predicted scattered heavy rain in several districts of north and south Bengal in the next few days, while light to moderate rain will continue in the remaining districts as well.

Scattered rains with thunderstorms and lightning are likely in Kolkata, Howrah and Hooghly districts on Monday and Tuesday. It will continue in North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and Purulia districts from Saturday. Heavy rain is likely in Bankura, Jhargram, West Midnapore, East Midnapore and South 24 Parganas districts from Monday. Along with this, gusty winds between 20 and 40 kilometres per hour are likely.

However, there is no weather warning anywhere in South Bengal after Tuesday. Before that, rain will continue in all districts to some extent.

Meanwhile, heavy rain will continue in some parts of north Bengal. Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar districts are likely to receive heavy rains from Saturday to Wednesday. In addition, Cooch Behar and Darjeeling districts are likely to receive scattered heavy rain on Monday and Kalimpong district on Saturday.

Although there is no possibility of heavy rain in North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur and Malda districts for now, scattered rains will continue in these districts from Saturday to Tuesday.

Although the low pressure has moved away, the monsoon axis is still active. Due to the active monsoon, rain will continue locally from thunderclouds for a few more days. As the sea is relatively calm, no warning has been issued for fishermen for the time being.

In Kolkata, the amount of rain has decreased compared to before. Along with this, the temperature has started increasing. According to the weather office, the mercury has already crossed the normal limit. The discomfort level has also shot up due to high humidity. The minimum temperature in Kolkata on Saturday was 28.2 degrees Celsius, 1.8 degrees above normal. The maximum temperature in the city on Friday was 33.1 degrees Celsius, 1.1 degrees above normal.
