FIR filed over ‘fake’ video of waterlogged Noida International Airport; UP cops scan FB handles

Greater Noida, Aug 17 (IANS) The Uttar Pradesh Police on Monday launched a probe into the circulation of some ‘fake and misleading’ videos of waterlogging at Noida International Airport during the recent incessant rainfall. The police also lodged a case against a Facebook account operating under the name ‘Sach Bolo’, following a complaint filed by the Airport management.

As heavy rain lashed Delhi-NCR recently, multiple purported videos of waterlogging at the newly built Noida airport surfaced, showing water accumulated in a passage connecting the terminal and parking, creating considerable inconvenience for passengers.

The airport management claims that the video was fake, misleading, and a distortion of actual conditions. It said the video was circulated on social media, thus misleading a large number of people regarding the airport’s actual status.

The airport management, in its complaint, said that dissemination of false information could cause great inconvenience to the travellers and also expressed apprehension that misleading pictures and footage could damage the image and reputation of Noida International Airport.

Describing the facility as a vital public infrastructure project, the management sought an investigation into malicious content circulated on social media and sought appropriate legal action.

The police are investigating the source of the alleged video, its authenticity and also the circumstances surrounding its circulation.

Additionally, efforts are underway to determine the purpose behind the creation or dissemination of the video and whether it deliberately presented a misleading image of the airport.

The Jewar police is also likely to conduct a technical examination of social media accounts and the viral video, while scrutinising available digital evidence.

The waterlogging at the airport had led to a barrage of reactions on social media, with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav taking a swipe at the government.

“Will boats now run at the airport? Wherever there is a BJP government, there is massive corruption!” Yadav had posted on X.

Many also questioned the airport’s water drainage arrangements.
