Amreli, Aug 14 (IANS) Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday urged the girl students in Amreli district to limit their use of social media, television and reels and devote greater attention to their goals, saying effective time management and focus were essential for building a successful career.

Patel made the remarks while interacting with girl students at the Shantaben Haribhai Gajera Shaikshanik Sankul in Amreli as part of the state-level celebrations of the 80th Independence Day.

The interaction covered student values, women’s empowerment, career building and the responsibilities of the Chief Minister.

Responding to a question on his role, Chief Minister Patel said: “As the head of the state, the Chief Minister carried overall responsibility for its holistic development and have to work for the welfare of citizens as well as the development of the state.”

On career building, the Chief Minister advised students to avoid excessive use of social media, television and reels.

He stressed that students should manage their time wisely and remain focused on their goals to achieve success.

Chief Minister Patel also addressed a question on what students should learn to become good citizens.

He said that fun and enjoyment were an important part of student life, but students should ensure that their actions and behaviour did not hurt or trouble others.

He emphasised the importance of values, saying that “good values shape a person’s identity”.

Speaking about women’s participation in politics, Chief Minister Patel referred to the decision to provide 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies.

“After women had secured 50 per cent participation in local self-government institutions, greater representation in the Assemblies and Lok Sabha would further strengthen their role in addressing social issues and the law-making process,” he noted.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the role of youth and women in the country’s development.

Recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra of “Sauno Saath, Sauno Vikas, Sauno Vishwas and Sauno Prayas”, CM Patel said that mutual trust and collective efforts could help the nation and society progress at twice the pace.

The Gajera Shaikshanik Sankul, which began in 1997 with 73 girls, now has around 8,000 girls studying across more than 12 schools and colleges, from kindergarten to postgraduate level, Minister of State for Energy and Law, Kaushik Vekariya, said in his welcome address.

Vekariya thanked the state government and the Chief Minister for financial assistance being provided to students through schemes, including Namo Lakshmi, Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana, assistance for the unreserved category, and Digital Gujarat.

“Amreli’s education sector and overall development had progressed with the support of state government policies and guidance,” CM Patel said.

Agriculture Minister and Amreli District In-Charge Minister Jitu Vaghani, Amreli MP Bharat Sutariya, institution President Manubhai Thummar, Vice-President Pratap Jogani, Minister Manu Davariya, and Atulbhai Kanani and Abhaysinh Chauhan were among those present at the interaction.
