Delhi Speaker greets citizens on I-Day, illuminated Assembly premises attracts citizens
New Delhi, Aug 14 (IANS) Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Friday extended Independence Day greetings to citizens, calling upon every Delhiite to hoist the Tiranga at home and make ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ a ‘Jan Utsav’ (public movement).
On this occasion, an illuminated Vidhan Sabha attracted hundreds of citizens as Border Security Force (BSF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Bands, cultural performances united Delhiites.
The Assembly Speaker said, “On this sacred occasion of Independence Day, I extend my heartiest greetings and warmest wishes to every citizen of Delhi and all Indians across the globe.”
Speaker Gupta added: “As we step into our 80th Independence Day, the historic Vidhan Sabha stands as a beacon of our rich democratic legacy and national pride. May this day renew our pledge to protect India’s Constitutional values, strengthen unity, and collectively work towards the growth and progress of our national capital.”
Citizens of Delhi thronged the historic 115-year-old Delhi Assembly on Friday for the eve of 80th Independence Day celebrations, turning the iconic premises into a lively hub of patriotic energy.
Opening its doors to the public from 5 to 8 p.m., families and visitors, especially young people, strolled through the Assembly grounds, exploring its rich heritage and taking in the architectural grandeur of the institution.
Excitement filled the air as visitors gathered to enjoy the spirited performances by the BSF Band and the CRPF Band, cheering and clapping along to stirring patriotic compositions.
The festive mood grew even more vibrant with rich cultural presentations organised by the Sahitya Kala Parishad, showcasing India’s diverse artistic traditions and drawing warm applause from the crowd.
Speaker Gupta emphasised that opening the doors of the Vidhan Sabha reflects the fundamental principle that democratic institutions ultimately belong to the citizens they serve, providing a unique opportunity to deepen public connection with the Republic.
Adding to the grand atmosphere, the historic Vidhan Sabha building was specially illuminated in the vibrant colours of the Tricolour, providing a stunning, radiant backdrop for the evening’s festivities.
The initiative aims to instil patriotism, reinforce national unity, and remind every citizen of their vital role in preserving Constitutional values and democratic heritage, the Speaker said.
For those wishing to join the celebrations, the Assembly premises will remain open again on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m.
The entry is open to all without prior registration, subject to standard security checks and presentation of a valid photo identity document at the gate.
