New Delhi, Aug 14 (IANS) In a first for the country’s postal network, the Department of Posts on Friday delivered the National Flag, the Tiranga, by drone from the Mandi Head Post Office to the Rehardhar Branch Post Office in Himachal Pradesh.

The initiative marked India Post’s first-ever drone delivery of the national flag and showcased the use of emerging technology to strengthen last-mile connectivity in remote areas.

The drone delivery was inaugurated virtually by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on the eve of Independence Day.

The minister watched the live take-off from Mandi Head Post Office and interacted with postal officials and the drone operator during the operation.

After completing its journey, the drone landed at the Rehardhar Branch Post Office, where postal staff received the parcel carrying the Tiranga.

The flag was subsequently handed over to an Army veteran, lending symbolic significance to the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Scindia said the Tiranga’s journey through the skies of Himachal Pradesh reflected the spirit of a new India determined to overcome geographical barriers and reach every citizen.

He noted that this year’s Independence Day celebrations hold special importance as the country marks 150 years of Vande Mataram, bringing together patriotism, public service and the vision of a developed India.

The minister also highlighted the role of India Post in supporting the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, saying the postal department is making the national flag available for delivery across the country so that citizens can participate in the celebrations from their homes.

The Department of Posts said the drone delivery demonstrated how technology can complement its vast physical network and help improve access to public services in difficult and remote terrains.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to explore drone-based mail transportation as a means of enhancing service delivery where conventional transport methods face limitations.
