Bihar: Patna HC seeks response on ‘irregularities’ in SI exam

Patna, Aug 13 (IANS) The Patna High Court has sought responses from the Bihar Government and the Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) over allegations of irregularities and misconduct in the main examination for recruitment to the post of Sub‑Inspector (SI) in Bihar Police.

The matter was heard by a single‑judge bench headed by Justice Harish Kumar in connection with a civil writ petition filed by Arpita Kumari and others.

The court has directed the State Government and BPSSC to file counter‑affidavits within three weeks. The next hearing has been scheduled for August 24, 2026.

The petitioners had applied for the SI recruitment process under Advertisement No. 05/2025, issued on September 23, 2025. They alleged that large‑scale irregularities and misconduct took place during the main examination.

According to their petition, two FIRs have also been registered concerning alleged malpractice and irregularities connected with the examination. The petitioners further relied on media reports concerning alleged improper activities during the examination.

They told the court that, despite these allegations, no effective investigation or action had been taken. The petitioners argued that the reported incidents point towards possible systemic deficiencies in the examination process. They have therefore sought judicial intervention and appropriate action against officials found responsible.

Senior Advocate Abhinav Shrivastava appeared for the petitioners. Advocate Sanjay Pandey represented BPSSC, while Advocate Binita Singh represented the State Government.

The High Court’s order at this stage is essentially a direction for the authorities to respond; it does not establish that the alleged examination irregularities occurred. The Government’s and BPSSC’s counter‑affidavits, followed by the August 24 hearing, are expected to provide further clarity.

The issue assumes greater significance in light of the large‑scale protests held at Jantar Mantar and other parts of the country, including Bihar, over the alleged NEET‑UG paper leak and irregularities. The controversy put considerable pressure on the Central Government, prompting demands for accountability and action.
