Delhi Rs 2,500 scheme: Women in NE, NW districts lead in form submission

New Delhi, Aug 8 (IANS) Women in the North-East and North-West districts are leading the surge in registrations for the Rekha Gupta government’s Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, which touched the figure of 5,14,460 on Saturday afternoon, an official said.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government aims to release the first instalment into the accounts of eligible women on Raksha Bandhan.

According to the district-level data, the fewest registrations and application submissions are being seen in New Delhi district.

The district, which is home to government offices, staff residential complexes, diplomatic area and upscale neighbourhoods, has received only 1,801 final applications. In this district, the number of registrations by women stood at 5,573 in the first seven days of the scheme’s launch.

The North-East district has recorded the most overwhelming response. Out of the 73,676 registered women who have entered details on the portal, 38,579 have submitted their final applications, said the official in a statement.

In the North-West district, 34,545 out of 55,700 registered users have finally submitted their applications. In the West district, 18,967 out of 44,358 registrants submitted their applications, said the statement.

In the South-West district, 23,994 out of 44,149 registered women have submitted their applications; in the Outer North district, 23,694 out of 39,401 have done so; and in the South-East district, 18,725 out of 38,979 registered women have submitted their applications.

In the North district, 16,074 out of 37,263 registered women have submitted their applications, in East district 14,771 out of 30,621 have finally submitted their applications; in South district 11,000 out of 26,316 have done so; in Central-North district 6,332 out of 14,279 have submitted applications; in Central district 4,208 out of 13,715 have done so and in Old Delhi district 6,038 out of 12,286 have submitted their applications.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Delhi government is fulfilling its commitment made during the Assembly elections to empower women economically with full dedication.

The enthusiasm and trust with which women have embraced the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana is proof that the scheme will bring a positive change to the lives of millions of families, she said.

She added that the record number of registrations in such a short period reflects the trust of Delhi’s mothers and sisters in the government and the scheme.

The government’s objective is not merely to provide financial assistance, but also to connect women with savings, digital financial inclusion, social security and long-term financial stability, she said.

Under the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, eligible women will receive financial assistance of Rs 2,500 per month. Beneficiaries have been given two financial options under the scheme. Under the first option, Rs 1,000 will be made available in a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) wallet for daily needs, while Rs 1,500 will be deposited in an RD/FD. Under the second option, the entire amount of Rs 2,500 will be deposited in an RD/FD, thereby promoting long-term savings among women.

The Chief Minister said the scheme is being implemented through a fully technology-driven and transparent system. From the application process to document verification, eligibility assessment, approval, PFMS integration, banking services and payment, the entire process is being carried out digitally.

Each application goes through a four-level scrutiny and approval process to ensure that only genuine eligible beneficiaries receive the benefits of the scheme.
