Mumbai, Aug 7 (IANS) Bollywood actress Vidya Balan, who was last seen in the Marathi film ‘Raja Shivaji’, celebrated the National Handloom Day with her support for India’s artisans.

The actress took to her Instagram on Friday, and shared a video of herself talking to the camera in which she paid tribute to the craftsmanship, legacy and timeless beauty of handloom silk sarees, while encouraging everyone to support authentic Indian weaves.

She said, “What I love most about handloom silk sarees is that every bit, every motif, every little detail carries the signature of artistic skill and generations of tradition. That’s what makes each handloom silk saree truly one of a kind. On this Handloom Day, let’s celebrate the hands behind these masterpieces. And whenever you buy, look for the Silk Mark label to ensure genuine pure silk”.

The actress advocated for Indian handloom and traditional textiles, celebrating the country’s rich weaving heritage through her choice of sarees and public appearances.

She also penned a long note in the caption, as she wrote, “Every handloom silk saree tells a story that no machine can ever replicate. This National Handloom Day, let’s celebrate the incredible artisans whose hands keep India’s timeless weaving traditions alive. And whenever you choose pure silk, always look for the Silk Mark, your assurance of genuine pure silk”.

The actress is known for championing India’s textile heritage, Vidya’s message beautifully highlighted the importance of preserving traditional craftsmanship while recognising the artisans whose dedication keeps these centuries-old weaving traditions alive.

Her video follows PM Modi’s message on the National Handloom Day as he dropped his latest video in the night, urging all Indians to appreciate, purchase and proudly flaunt the tradition woven by some of the finest artisans in the country.
