Court complaint filed against Rahul Gandhi, other Oppn MPs in Bihar

Patna, Aug 6 (IANS) A senior advocate from the Jamui Civil Court has filed a complaint against five opposition Members of Parliament, alleging that a protest staged inside the Parliament complex hurt religious sentiments and undermined the dignity of Parliament.

The complaint, filed by Rajiv Ranjan, has been submitted before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Jamui, and registered as Case No. 1004/2026. The court is expected to fix a date for hearing the matter.

Apart from Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Purnea MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, the complaint also names Samajwadi Party (SP) MPs Awadhesh Prasad (Faizabad), Ruchi Veera (Moradabad) and Dharmendra Yadav (Azamgarh).

According to the complainant, the MPs staged a dramatic performance inside the Parliament complex, which he claimed was inappropriate for an institution of such constitutional importance.

Rajiv Ranjan alleged that the demonstration was carried out to attract publicity despite the underlying issue already being monitored by the Supreme Court and a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Speaking on the matter, Ranjan said the protest had deeply hurt him both personally and socially. He further alleged that the demonstration had hurt the religious sentiments of followers of Sanatan Dharma.

“Rahul Gandhi, Pappu Yadav and other MPs have hurt the religious sentiments of followers of Sanatan Dharma. Followers of Sanatan Dharma are tolerant; that is precisely why these individuals staged such a demonstration,” Ranjan said.

The complaint follows a protest held during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, where opposition MPs raised allegations of misappropriation of donations linked to the Ram Mandir.

During the protest, Pappu Yadav, the Independent MP from Purnea, dressed as a priest and sat inside the Parliament complex with a donation box. Other opposition MPs, including Rahul Gandhi, were seen placing money into the box as part of the symbolic demonstration.

The protest concluded with Pappu Yadav running away with the donation box, a theatrical act intended to symbolise the opposition’s allegations of misuse of Ram Mandir donations.

The allegations made in the complaint are yet to be adjudicated, and the matter is now pending before the Jamui court.
