Kolkata, Aug 5 (IANS) From Annapurna Yojana and VB-G Ram G ACT, 2025 to PM Awas Yojana and free bus rides for women, this time, the Independence Day tableaux in Kolkata will be decorated with the theme of various welfare projects of the central government and the new West Bengal government.

On August 15, as many as 11 tableaux will be on display on the Red Road during the Independence Day parade, said a government official on Wednesday.

Apart from this, the contribution of Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee will also be highlighted in a tableau.

The BJP government in the state has launched several new projects and welfare schemes. All those will be highlighted in the Independence Day programme this time.

A total of 10 departments including Public Works, Health, Transport, Electricity, Panchayat are decorating their tableaux in line with their various schemes.

Even during the Trinamool government regime led by former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, various government welfare schemes were highlighted in well-decorated tableaux during the Independence Day parade.

However, there used to be only three or four tableaux at that time. This time, that number is being increased.

Along with this, according to state government sources, the central government’s welfare schemes and life and contribution of Syama Prasad Mookerjee will also be highlighted in the tableau.

This will be the first Independence Day programme after the BJP formed the government in the state. Therefore, there will be many surprises, said the government official.

In addition, awareness messages related to various services of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and road safety will be highlighted.

The main programme will begin at 10:30 am on August 15 at Red Road in central Kolkata.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will hoist the national flag. This will be followed by a parade, tableaux display and cultural programmes.

Arrangements have also been made for a shower of flower petals from a helicopter. The entire programme will last for about an hour.

Meanwhile, security measures are being tightened around Independence Day in view of the recent fear of militant attacks in the state.

Preparations have been made to deploy a multi-layered security cordon, surveillance systems and adequate police on Red Road and adjacent areas, according to government sources.
