MP: Motorcyclist killed after being dragged under trailer truck in Shahdol

Shahdol, July 20 (IANS) A motorcycle rider was killed after being hit by a trailer truck in Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol district on Monday, with the impact trapping his body between the middle wheels of the heavy vehicle, police said.

The accident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Dhanpuri police station. The deceased was identified as Nandu Kol, a resident.

According to police, Kol was riding his motorcycle when the trailer struck the two-wheeler.

He died on the spot, while his body got wedged between the middle tyres of the trailer. The truck came to a halt only after dragging the victim for some distance, making the rescue operation difficult.

Confirming the report, Shahdol City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Rajendra Mohan Dubey said the accident took place under the Dhanpuri police station limits.

“A trailer truck collided with a motorcycle, and the rider, identified as Nandu Kol, died on the spot. Police immediately reached the scene and carried out the necessary legal formalities. The body was recovered from beneath the vehicle and sent for post-mortem examination,” he told IANS.

Police said a case has been registered and an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances that led to the accident. Officers conducted a spot inspection and prepared the inquest report before shifting the body to a government hospital.

The trailer has been taken into custody, while efforts are underway to identify and question the driver. Investigators are also recording the statements of eyewitnesses to establish whether rash or negligent driving led to the collision.

The incident is the latest in a series of fatal road accidents involving heavy vehicles in Madhya Pradesh.

Further legal action will be taken based on the investigation’s findings, police said.
