Shajapur/Bhopal, July 9 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on Thursday that farmers in Madhya Pradesh will no longer have to take separate loans for Kharif and Rabi crops, saying the state government will introduce a single crop loan for the entire year to make credit more accessible.

Addressing the ‘Kisan Samriddhi Sankalp Sammelan’ at Kalapipal in Shajapur district, the Chief Minister added that the state government was taking continuous steps to reduce the financial burden on farmers and improve their income.

“Farmers will no longer have to take separate loans for Kharif and Rabi crops. A single crop loan for the entire year will be made available. Our government is continuously working to reduce farming costs, increase production and ensure farmers get remunerative prices for their produce,” Chief Minister Yadav said.

He reiterated that the agriculture and farmers remain the state’s top priority and added that the irrigated area in Madhya Pradesh has expanded to more than 55 lakh hectares, resulting in higher agricultural production.

The Chief Minister also announced that the state government would provide incentives to encourage natural farming and extend special assistance to cattle rearers to increase milk production.

Highlighting irrigation projects, Chief Minister Yadav said that work on major river-linking schemes, including the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal (PKC) project, would benefit farmers by expanding irrigation facilities.

He added that the state government was committed to bringing Narmada water to every village in Shajapur district.

“Our (Bharatiya Janata Party) government is committed to bringing Narmada water to every village in Shajapur district. We are also working in a phased manner to provide electricity for irrigation during the daytime so that farmers do not have to visit their fields at night,” he said.

During the programme, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone and inaugurated 12 development projects worth Rs 30.86 crore.

These included the foundation laying for four projects worth Rs 1.45 crore and the inauguration of eight projects worth Rs 29.39 crore.

The projects include school buildings, bridges, panchayat buildings, a primary health centre, anganwadi centres and other civic infrastructure works.
